The IATA Standard Schedules Information Digital Manual (SSIM) is published annually as the industry’s authoritative reference for airline schedules data. Accurate and reliable exchange of flight schedule information across the aviation industry depends on the consistent application of shared rules, principles, and operational practices. SSIM establishes the recommended practices, message formats, and data processing standards used by IATA member airlines and their business partners. It provides a common framework for the exchange of airline schedules, airport coordination communications, and Minimum Connecting Time (MCT) data, ensuring consistency and interoperability across global aviation systems. What does the SSIM cover? The manual delivers detailed guidance across all aspects of schedules and slot data management, including: Standard schedules data requirements, covering data elements, identifiers, and representation Schedule presentation formats, including codeshare flights, planned changes, and worked examples Standard and ad hoc schedules messaging, outlining principles, rules, and technical specifications Airport coordination procedures, including standard messages, coordination rules, and message formats Transfer and application of schedules datasets, addressing system constraints and implementation guidance Minimum Connecting Time (MCT) standards, including establishment, submission practices, and application In addition, SSIM includes a comprehensive set of appendices covering aircraft and service codes, passenger terminal indicators, traffic restriction codes, region and country codes, time zone and daylight saving information, coordination reason codes, general aviation slot clearance requests, and explanatory notes to support practical implementation. Staying current with SSIM updates SSIM is updated annually to reflect the latest developments in schedules data techniques, formats, and industry conventions. Effective from 1 March 2025, the 35th Edition introduces several notable updates, including revised data element indicator usage, updated change and coordinator reason codes, clarified email processing principles for slot systems, and the removal of selected inflight service values. Additional changes include updated aircraft type codes, revised passenger terminal entries, new Schengen Agreement countries, and updated daylight saving time data for 2025–2027. The edition also introduces updated terminal registration and amendment processes and enhanced watchlists for new aircraft, airports, and passenger terminals within eSSIM.
